Men's Retreat

Every year, the men of Apostles go together to the beach for a weekend retreat. This is a great opportunity to get away and have fun getting to know other men and growing closer to the Lord. The dual goals of our retreat are to challenge our hearts with a powerful speaker, and build our fellowship with discussion, activities and free time to spend with our brothers.

This year’s retreat will be held on September 19-21, 2008 at the Trinity Center, Pine Knoll Shores, NC.

If you have any questions about the Men’s Retreat, please contact Mike Kromhout at kromhout@us.ibm.com or Steve Zimmerman at Steve.Zimmerman@remasonco.com.

Why Come?

Its simple:

  1. Great fellowship
  2. Great Speaker
  3. The Beach
  4. Time to step out of the rat race and focus on God

This has been a consistent highlight of the year since we started two years ago. If you are still unsure, just ask a few guys who have gone (60 Men went last year, so it won’t be hard finding one). So mark your calendar, save the date, ask/tell your wife (she may tell you, that’s happened!) and SIGN UP!

What is our Focus?

The dual goals of our retreat are to challenge our hearts with a powerful speaker, and build our fellowship with discussion, activities and free time to spend with our brothers.

The Fall Retreat is a great time to build fellowship with our brothers. Starting with our traditional road trip approach down to the Trinity center, we provide multiple opportunities to build relationships with other men in the church. One of our most consistent feedback points was what a great opportunity this presents to get to know other men in a real way.

See more info on our speaker below, but suffice to say here, Gordon is going to challenge us. We are very excited to continue our exploration of Godly manhood with this powerful speaker.

Who is our Speaker?

Our speaker is Gordon Dalbey, author of three books and pioneer of the men’s movement.

In 1988, Gordon Dalbey's first book Healing the Masculine Soul pioneered the growing Christian men's movement, by calling men to a godly strength--neither the traditional violent, loner male nor the counterculture” peace-and-love male. His unique focus has stirred men of all ages, races, and position.

  1. Featured on 1991 Focus on the Family radio interviews (re-broadcast in 1998 and 2003 as "classics“)
  2. Keynoted at the first Promise Keepers (Boulder '92)
  3. Also appeared on "The 700 Club," and hundreds of other radio and TV shows

Learn more about Gordon at www.abbafather.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

New Dad? The kid’s going to be around for 18 more years, you can afford the time away! Make sure you arrange help for Mom though…

Interested in serving? We still need willing hands in various capacities. See contacts listed below.

Interested in giving? The per person fee does not cover our costs. In addition, we offer scholarships for those in need. Those able to give beyond the cost of the retreat are welcome to do so. And we thank you!

Late to Register? That’s ok. We want you whenever we can get you. Just drop off or mail your form to Church of the Apostles attn: Men’s Retreat.

What to expect? We strive to have all men leave from the church early Friday evening in carpool/team fashion, this is to start the fellowship/challenge/fun right from the beginning.  Friday evening program is light, on Saturday we get into the Speaker as well as having activity/free time. Saturday culminates with a bonfire. Sunday is Breakfast, packing, and Worship before the return home.

Dress is casual, anything short of naked is fine, remember there are no chicks to pick-up or impress, so shirts are preferred. Watch the weather, dress appropriately.

A full list of what to bring and further instruction will be distributed the week before the retreat.

Other questions? Please contact Mike Kromhout at kromhout@us.ibm.com or Steve Zimmerman at Steve.Zimmerman@remasonco.com.
